Support Team Elements
Maybe the most important, component to the Begin With ME! project is the multidisciplinary Building Support Team.
Building Support Teams are made up of a classroom teacher, a special education service provider, instructional and technology staff and the building principal. Begin With ME! encourages collaborative teaching between the general, special and technology educator. Building Support Teams meet regularly to plan instruction and define member roles for any given writing lesson.
All support occurs in the general education classroom. This provides the needed support for the student with special learning needs and provides an opportunity to give additional support to students considered at-risk. As a result of this type of support Begin With ME! promotes a co-teaching approach. Co-teaching is an approach to teaching where two teachers (regular education and special education) support and share teaching responsibilities within the walls of the regular education classroom.
